Brenham, TX to North Port, FL

I got in to Letitia and Tony's place around 7PM on Monday. Letitia was one of the first friends I made at WBU. It had been 5 years since last I saw them and they were living in Sacramento back then. Texas drew them home again last year. I understand the attraction. There's something "down home" about TX. The people, for the most part are genuine and honest. The pace of life is not too fast. Priorities are in line with family values. Land prices are affordable, too.

This was my first chance to meet Benji and Hannah, their two children. Benji is quite a ham. Hannah is a little doll and seems to have gotten her mother's stubborn streak. Fortunately Tony and Letitia have some help taking care of the children. Christina is a live-in nanny and co-vocalist in their band. They treated me to a mini-concert in the den, performing half a dozen songs that they had written. Pretty good stuff. We shot some pool and listened to tunes. Tony let me borrow a Gary Moore CD for the drive. We share an appreciation for the incredible guitarist. Letitia's taste is for newer and heavier music. She introduced me to bands like Seether, Unloco and Powerhouse 5000. She burned a cd for me, too.

Letitia and I drove through Brenham and stopped at the Giddings-Stone Mansion, known for being the birth place of TX. They've been working on their own mansion. Okay, it's not a mansion, but it sits on an acre of land and they've been working on it non-stop since they moved in 6 months ago. The game room is awesome. They put in a Rhyno Court in the back yard, along with a pool. They've been painting and put in all new windows. When they're done they will have added another two car garage, an office and a recording studio. Pretty ambitious, but I know when I visit again someday it will be a reality.

The funniest thing in the house, besides Benji is the Kegerator in the Garage. They bought a new fridge and drilled a couple holes into it for a keg tap and CO2 hose. The result is a true engineering marvel. We worked on a keg of Shiner Bock, a true Texan delicacy while I visited. Very smooth. Letitia and I have hung out together in more places than anyone else I know. We've been together in West Texas, Dallas, Houston, New Mexico, Alaska, Northern California and now we can add Brenham. I think next will be Florida.
