Gold Canyon in a new town just East of Apache Junction, which is just
East of Mesa and Phoenix. It took a little over 8 hours to get there from Bakersfield.
The highlight of the drive was passing Pyramid Lake just North of Los Angeles. The
low light was getting blown into the next lane by cross winds while driving 80 mph
in the AZ desert. No sir, I didn't like that. Tom and my sister, Sandy had a house built a year and a half ago near the base of Superstition Mountain. A pool is under construction in the back yard. The whole place is done up in a tasteful Southwestern theme. The first night we had dinner with Tom's two girls, a couple of their friends and Sandy's girl, Cora. It was nice to visit with them all. The next day, Tom took Sandy, Cora and I through Box Canyon in his Jeep. I gained a sincere appreciation of how good Jeeps can get around or over obstacles. I thought for sure we were stuck several times on that trail through the canyon but the Jeep just wouldn't be denied. That night, Tom's mother treated us all, including Tom's sister for dinner at Applebee's in Mesa. Unfortunately I couldn't convince the waiter to look the other way while I took the Darren Woodsen jersey off the wall so we just had to settle for good food and fellowship. Back Home |
